Biography

Stephen W. Director, a Fellow of IEEE, received the B.S. degree in engineering science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1965, and the M.S. and Ph.D degrees in electrical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1967 and 1968, respectively. In 1968 he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of Florida as Assistant Professor. He became Associate Professor in 1971 and Professor in 1974. In 1977 he joined Carnegie - Mellon University as Professor of Electrical Engineering. His research interests are in the area of computer-aided design and numerical methods and he is a consultant to industry in this area.

Dr. Director has been active in IEEE committees and publications, has authored a book on circuit theory, and co-authored one on systems theory.

In 1970 he received the Best Paper Award from the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society and in 1976 he received the Terman Award from ASEE as the outstanding young electrical engineering educator. He is a member of Sigma Xi and Eta Kappa Nu.
