Biography

Lester Earnest was born on 17 Dec 1930 in San Diego, CA. He earned a BS in electrical engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 1953. In 1956, he became employed by MIT's Lincoln Labs where he worked on the SAGE (Semi-Automatic Ground Environment) defense system. He earned a MS in electrical engineering at MIT in 1960 and in 1965 became employed at Stanford University where he lectured and was the chief administrative officer of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. He became involved in the committee which resulted in the creation of the ARPANET, and wrote the Finger protocol in 1971. In 1980, Earnest founded Imagen Corp, and retired from Stanford as senior research computer scientist emeritus in 1988.
