Anil K. Jain was born in India on January 21, 1946. He completed his B. Tech. with honors from IIT, Kharagpur, India, in 1967 and received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Rochester, N.Y., in 1969 and 1970, respectively, all in electrical engineering.
From 1968 to 1970, Dr. Jain was a System Science Fellow at the University of Rochester, and from 1970 to 1971 he was a Post-Doctoral Fellow with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. From 1971 to 1974, he served as an Assistant Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Image Processing Institute at use. In 1974 he joined the faculty at the State University of New York, Buffalo, where he served as an Associate Professor. In 1978 he became an Acting Associate Professor at the University of California, Davis, and since 1979 he has been a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering there.
Dr. Jain has been a consultant for several private and federal organizations. His research interests include digital signal and image processing, real time computer systems, and pattern recognition. In 1977 he received an Achievement Award at the International Picture Coding Symposium held in Tokyo, Japan.
