About the Award

The Alfred E. Noble Prize is awarded to a member of any grade of the American Society of Civil Engineers; American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers, Inc.; The American Society of Mechanical Engineers; The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers; or the Western Society of Engineers. This prize was established in 1929 and consists of an award from the income of a fund contributed by engineers and others in honor of Alfred Noble, Past President of the American Society of Civil Engineers and of the Western Society of Engineers, for the purpose of perpetuating his name and achievements. The American Society of Civil Engineers is designated as trustee of the fund. The award is given for a technical paper of exceptional merit accepted by the Committee on Publications, or a committee of like standing, for publication in any of their technical publications, provided the author has not passed his/her 35th birthday at the time the paper is published in print by the nominating society.
