Biography
John McGhie was born in Liverpool, England, on April 23rd, 1863. He attended the University College in London, and served as secretary of the Westminster Review in London. He earned his M.A. from Oxford University, afterwards came to the United States. He married Charlotte Bronté Fisher on December 19th, 1889 in Highland Falls, NY. In 1890 he was employed by the Edison Electric Company as assistant to the manager of Bergmann works. After the consolidation of General Electric, he was the Manager of General Electric's Advertising department until January 31st, 1899. McGhie resigned at General Electric for position at American Machinist in Cleveland, OH, serving as manager of that company's advertising department for their Western territory.
