Society History

The Engineering Management Society (EMS) was founded in 1951, becoming the Technology Management Council (TMC) in 2007. In 2015 we transitioned to the Technology and Engineering Management Society.

The Field of Interest of the TEMS encompasses the management sciences and practices required for defining, implementing, and managing engineering and technology. Specific topics of interest include, but are not limited to: technology policy development, assessment, and transfer; research; product design and development; manufacturing operations; innovation and entrepreneurship; program and project management; strategy; education and training; organizational development and human behavior; transitioning to management; and the socioeconomic impact of engineering and technology management.

March 4, 1952 - First meeting of the IRE Professional Group on Engineering Management
March 26, 1963 - Name change to IEEE Professional Technical Group on Engineering Management
March 23, 1965 - Name change to IEEE Engineering Management Group
March 28, 1973 - Name change to IEEE Engineering Management Society
November 19, 2004 – Field of Interest Revision
February 18, 2007 – Became the Technology Management Council. IEEE BoD approved to dissolve the Engineering Management Society and establish the Technology Management Council, effective, 1 January 2008 (TAB approved in November 2006).
January 1, 2015 - Became the IEEE Technology and Engineering Management Society
