IEEE Consumer Technology Society History

IRE Professional Group on Broadcast and Television Receivers (BTRC)/Consumer Electronics Group was formed in 1949. (This group operated concurrently with the Broadcast Group/Group on Broadcasting. Both groups merged in 1976 to form the BCCE Society.)
Timeline of events
- November 1, 1949 - First Meeting of the IRE Professional Group on Broadcast and Television Receivers
- 1963 - Name change to IEEE Professional Technical Group on Broadcast and Television Receivers
- 1964 - Name change to Group on Broadcast and Television Receivers
- 1974 - Between August and December 1974, approval of Broadcast and Television Receivers Group name change to IEEE Group on Consumer Electronics.
- 1975 - Consumer Electronics Group merged with Group on Broadcasting to form the BCCE Society.
- The Consumer Electronics Group also ran as a separate subgroup under the BCCE Society from 1976 to 1982. In 1982 it became a Society of its own: Consumer Electronics Society.
- 1983 - First meeting of CE Society because TAB approved dissolution of BCCE and, as a result, approved the formation of both the Consumer Electronics Society and the Broadcast Technology Society.
- 2013 – Changed from AdCom to BoG
- 2020 – Changed Society Name from Consumer Electronics Society to Consumer Technology Society (CTSoc)
- 2020 – Changed Society Logo
