Biography
Hermann W. Reichenstein was born in Germany. Reichenstein came to the U.S. in 1915, settling in Union, N.J., USA. He graduated with high honors from the Newark Technical School, (now New Jersey Institute of Technology) in 1938.
His career began at Singer Manufacturing Co., Elizabeth, NJ as an electrical draftsman and engineer.
In 1949 he joined the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey as a design engineer, working on power systems for airports, the Lincoln Tunnel, the George Washington Bridge and marine terminal facilities.
He retired as senior engineer in 1972. He was active in the IEEE New York Section and in the IEEE Power Engineering and the Industry Applications Societies. He was awarded the Power System Technologies Committee Prize Paper Award in 1984 and published more than 30 articles and a book on low-voltage fuse characteristics.
Reichenstein died on April 1st, 1998.
