Donald Christiansen
Biography
Donald Christiansen was born on 23 June 1927 and grew up in Plainfield, New Jersey. After high school, he served aboard the aircraft carrier San Jacinto during World War II. After the war, he attended Cornell University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in 1950, and was employed at the CBS Electronics division from 1950-1962. He began contributing to Electronics World in 1959, edited Electronic Design, and later Electronics magazine. In 1971, he was hired as editor in chief for IEEE Spectrum, and was instrumental in its redesign and transition to an award-winning publication. Christiansen continued to serve IEEE in a volunteer capacity long after his retirement.
Christiansen was an Eminent Member of Eta Kappa Nu and recipient of the 2001 HKN Distinguished Service Award.
