Bruno Meyer
Biography
Drawing upon his extensive skill set, Bruno Meyer has played a crucial role in advancing IEEE’s efforts in climate change mitigation and adaptation. Through his candidacy for Technical Activities Board (TAB) VP-elect in 2020, his year as TAB VP-elect in 2021, and his service as TAB VP in 2022, Meyer succeeded in establishing and formalizing the Technical Activities Program in Climate Change. In 2020, he was one of the co-leads of the Sustainable Development Ad Hoc (SDAH) Committee created between TAB, Standards Association (SA), and Member and Geographic Activities (MGA). He also participated in a workshop held at COP26 and presented a keynote on “What role could electricity play in addressing sustainable development?” In 2022, he launched the TAB Climate-Change Program to structure activities on climate change mitigation. The program encouraged synergies between ongoing activities within TAB and new initiatives from the TA community on climate change. In 2023, climate change became the centerpiece of IEEE President Saifur Rahman’s administration. Appointed by the Ad Hoc Committee to Coordinate IEEE’s Response to Climate Change, Meyer led a steering committee to align the TAB agenda and deliver a well-structured program that was embraced by TAB societies. Meyer significantly streamlined IEEE’s diverse climate initiatives into a more visible and coordinated effort, helping to avoid potential volunteer, staff, and public confusion. His work has been instrumental in establishing a technical community that may eventually become a self-sustained entity or IEEE council. Through his diligent efforts, Meyer has ensured IEEE continues to play a key role in addressing the global challenge of climate change.
An IEEE Fellow, Meyer is Secretary General, GO15, Paris, France.
