About the Collection

Peter L. Bellaschi, IEEE Fellow, recipient of the 1937 Westinghouse Order of Merit and the 1982 IEEE William M. Habirshaw Award, was a a long time employee at the Westinghouse Transformer Division, who had assembled a collection of several hundred slides containing images related to many aspects of the power industry.

All the pictures in the collection are marked with PB and a number ranging from 1 to 509 on what is believed to be the front. The collection contains pictures of different formats: 374 lantern slides, 49 plastic slides, 46 normal slides, 4 stereo slides, 6 large negatives, 1 color film with prints and negatives, 6 color prints, and 10 black and white prints.

The collection is not individually cataloged. Instead 13 categories have been chosen into which the pictures have been sorted. The different slides are put into these categories, whereas the prints are dealt with separately at the end. The description in each category varies. Under some categories, after the general listing of the numbers, there is a listing of those pictures who have been possible to identify, described in detail. Under other categories pictures are directly grouped into identified subgroups without further description.

The categories are: maps, drawings, test equipment, transformers, power towers & lines, lightning & discharge, nature, insulators, switching, capacitors, vehicles, people and miscellaneous.

Bellaschi's paper, "Higher Transmission Voltages-Developments and Trends", presented at the AIEE Southwest District Meeting, St. Louis, MO, April 15-17, 1952, incorporates some of these slides.
