During WW2, family moved to Spokane, Washington - then Chicago, Illinois. After war, remained in Midwest during childhood and youth, mostly Iowa
EDUCATION
Active in Science Fair program while at CFHS (Cedar Falls High School); original projects included sonar, fax recording machine, and an early digital computer capable of playing checkers which had 3200 vacuum tubes. This computer (EMAG III) won the Iowa fair and placed second at the 1959 National Science Fair held in Hartford, Connecticut. It also won a scholarship to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, Cambridge, MA).
MIT class of 1963 - studied electrical engineering. Degree: BSEE.
EMPLOYMENT
Delivered papers while in grade school Worked in electrical shop while in high school During last two summer vacations in high school, worked with Dr. Arthur L. Samuel, an artificial intelligence pioneer, as a computer programmer on the IBM 704 at the IBM Research Lab in Poughkeepsie, New York Continued to work for IBM on various projects during MIT summer vacations.
After MIT, at IBM in Poughkeepsie two years, then Cambridge MA (IBM Cambridge Scientific Center) until 1971, programming computer graphics.
After IBM, consulted to New York City Planning commission for a year (computer graphics), commuting from home in Newton MA. Similar work for various consulting agencies during the 1970s; Arcon (Wakefield MA), ECI (Cambridge MA), C.T. Main (Boston MA). At the end of the 1970s, worked for Computervision (Bedford MA) Independent computer graphic consulting in the 1980s; also wrote and marketed entry-level CAD system (DiaCad) as sole proprietor.
In the 1990s, moved to Rumney, New Hampshire - as Diacad Associates (sole proprietor), design, assemble, and maintain personal computers for local businesses and individuals. Own workplace with about 3000 square foot capacity. Diacad Associates still operating as a retirement business.
PERSONAL and SOCIAL
Health: Very good, no medications, allergies. Height 5' 7", weight 160 lb. Last serious medical emergency was appendicitis at age 14.

Hobbies: Reading, cinema, listening to music, writing on internet. Some hiking and bicycling. Was member of MITOC (outing club) while at MIT.
Marital status: First marriage 1966. Married to Marcosa J Santiago MD since 1977.
Foreign travel as tourist: Scandinavia and Soviet Union in 1968 GDR (German Democratic Republic) in 1970, 1976, 1982, 1985 Philippines 1978, 1980, 1982, 2007
Foreign travel for business: Participated in Utrecht trade fair, exhibiting computer graphics software for personal computers (Netherlands, 1982).
Professional associations: Previous member of ACM and IEEE. Newsletter editor and Vice President of New England Computer Society (NECS) during 1980s.
