Akira Okada received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in physics in 1988 and 1990 respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in material science in 1993, all from Keio University, Japan. In 1993, he joined NTT where he has been engaged in research on polymer waveguide devices, full-mesh WDM networks, optical packet switching and optical modules for access and metro networks. From October 1997 to October 1998, he was a visiting scholar at Stanford University. He is currently a Senior Manager at NTT Photonics Laboratories in charge of R&D management. Dr. Okada is a member of IEEE Photonic Society, IEEE Communications Society, the Japan Society of Applied Physics, and a senior member of Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE) of Japan.
