Biography
Ralph Emerson Davis is known as the "godfather of the natural gas industry." Born in 1884, Davis was a geologist, teacher, and a consultant who became the most sought-after expert on the evaluation of gas reserves and the determination of gas deliverability for the pipeline industry, beginning in the 1920s. It once was estimated that three-fourths of the natural gas pipeline systems in the US and Canada were financed on the basis of his consulting firm's analysis. He died in 1968 at the age of 84.
