Biography

Joe Hong Chow is a highly influential force in the areas of power system dynamic-modeling and control, continuously producing research results that are directly applicable to the power transmission industry. His technical achievements have brought a far better understanding of complex power-system dynamics and enabled new tools for evaluating performance and enhancing reliability. He takes on difficult practical problems and develops rigorous and systematic algorithms to be implemented in new software and design/operation/planning criteria. His innovations have fundamentally changed the way engineers analyze and control large-scale power systems. Chow’s work has led to safer and more reliable power transmission systems that reduce electricity costs and prevent blackouts.

An IEEE Life Fellow, Chow is the Institute Professor of Engineering, Electrical, Computer and Systems Engineering, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York, USA.
