Biography

Power electronics has advanced in recent years from niche technology to one of the most important fields of electronics. At the forefront of this advancement is David Perreault, whose groundbreaking research has pushed the boundaries of very-high-frequency (VHF) power conversion. He is the leading figure in this area and the most current work by research groups and industry is based on his ideas. He has applied his experience in VHF power to radio amplifier applications as well as power conversion, developing higher efficiency approaches for RF power amplifiers. And he is now leading the way on yet another next-generation technology, high-power density power converters using piezoelectric resonators as passive components.

An IEEE Fellow, Perreault is the Ford Professor of Electrical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA and the 2024 recipient of the IEEE William E. Newell Power Electronics Award for "contributions to the development of very-high-frequency power converters."
