Biography
David J. Bishop earned a B.S. in physics from Syracuse University in 1973, an M.S in physics from Cornell University in 1977, and his Ph.D. in physics from Cornell University in 1978. His research has been focused on low temperature physics, mechanical properties of materials at low temperatures, MEMS and NEMS. He is head of the CELL-MET Engineering Research Center at Boston University and was the Head of the Division of Materials Science and Engineering.
Bishop is an Fellow of the American Physical Society and the National Academy of Inventors, is an IEEE Member, and is a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff Award, AT&T Bell Labs. He received the George E. Pake Prize of the American Physical Society in 2009, and the 2018 Ignition Award.
