ASEE Electrical and Computer Engineering Division History
Introduction
The Electrical and Computer Engineering Division or ECE Division is one of the special interest groups within the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). ASEE is an organization of individuals and institutions with the following mission statement.
"ASEE advances innovation, excellence, and access to all levels of education for the engineering profession" (ASEE June 2016).
The ECE Division emphasizes these objectives as they pertain to the field of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and related disciplines. ASEE members affiliate with the ECE Division to support professional activities as related to Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and related disciplines.
The activities of the ASEE ECE Division include organization of technical and poster sessions, workshops, and panels at the annual ASEE conference; recognition of contributions to the profession and the conference program; and communication with its members on professional topics of interest. The division works closely with the Education Society of the IEEE.

Overview of Activities
Conference
The annual conference has been a central activity of the ASEE and its predecessor organization, the Society for the Promotion of Engineering Education (SPEE), since 1893. ASEE was formed in 1946 through the reorganization of its predecessor organizations of SPEE dating to 1893 and the Engineering College Research Association (ECRA). Currently, the ECE Division and the other divisions within ASEE take a central role in organizing the technical program of the annual conference. The annual business meeting of the ASEE ECE Division is held at the ASEE Annual Conference.
