Biography

Benjamin Franklin Logan Jr. was born on June 6, 1927, in Coahoma, TX. He attended Texas Technical College and was later employed as a research assistant at MIT. Logan earned a masters degree in 1956, and accepted a position at Bell Labs. He received from Columbia University in 1965. Logan patented a device that reduced echoes over telephone lines with John Kelly. With Lawrence Shepp, Logan devised mathematical methods to interpret CT scan data into accurate images.

Logan began playing with a country band in 1947 and wrote several songs including “Diamond Joe” and “Christmas Time’s a-Comin’”, both covered by several prominent country artists.

Logan died on April 24th, 2015.
