Diogo Varajão was born in Ponte de Lima, Portugal, in December 21, 1988. He received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), Porto, Portugal, in 2010 and 2012, respectively, where he has recently submitted his Ph.D. thesis in power electronics. He was a Researcher at the Laboratory of Smart Grids and Electric Vehicles of INESC TEC, from 2011 to 2017, targeting the development of power electronics converters for integration of renewable energy and electric vehicles into smart grids. Since 2017, he has been leading the R&D department at AddVolt, S.A., Porto, Portugal, creating innovative solutions to reduce diesel consumption in refrigerated trucks by employing state-of-the-art battery technologies. Mr. Varajão filed one international patent application about the use of matrix converters to increase the power density and efficiency of bidirectional and isolated battery chargers for electric vehicles and battery energy storage systems.
