GROUP PHOTOGRAPH OF THE ORIGINAL "EDISON PIONEERS - 19 OCTOBER 1923"

Group photograph dated 19 October 1923 at the Edison Pioneers offices of the original "Edison Pioneers" who worked with inventor Thomas A. Edison, in some cases as early as at the Ward Street location in Newark, New Jersey - and later on at Edison's relocated offices and laboratory at Menlo Park, New Jersey - and finally at the West Orange, New Jersey facilities of Thomas A. Edison, Inc.

The Edison Pioneers are shown with mementos of the Edison era, which include behind them a framed engraving of a young Thomas A. Edison, a frame albumen photograph of the 'boarding house' at the Menlo Park complex, where the workers would often reside, and two first form chandeliers with the original first form "1880 Wire Terminal Base" Edison electric light sockets and electric incandescent light bulbs.

In the back row we see from the left: Francis Jehl, who is noted for his detailed three part history book series called "Menlo Park Reminiscences;" Frank Wardlaw - and C. E. Estabrook. Seated from the left we see: Charles L. Clarke; John W. Howell - who also wrote books on the early Edison days - and finally John W. Lieb.

These men worked close with Thomas A. Edison and were present at most of the inventor's historic developments, including the invention of the incandescent electric light.

The historic photograph bears the provenance of the estate of Thomas A. Edison, Glenmont, Lewellyn Park, West Orange, New Jersey and was discovered by American historian and archivist Richard Warren Lipack.
