I'm just tossing this in there because it shouldn't be forgotten. When I was growing up, Dad held Bewley up as the very emobodiment of a tough teacher - his class, 1947, was comprised of a lot of older students who came into Lehigh fresh from fighting a long, terrible war, then found themselves slogging through long sleepless nights with homework while some of the other students, perhaps, were availing themselves of other college perks (like parties). Dad said that while they groused about it, they proudly called themselves 'Bewley's Coolies.' Dad became a brilliant EE. I never met Bewley, but around our house we respected his name. It never occurred to me that he had fought in two wars himself.
