Biography

Marvin Charles Stewart was an African-American inventor who designed analog and digital components and computer systems.

Stewart was born in New York City in 1929 and obtained undergraduate and master’s degrees from the City College of New York. An IEEE member, Stewart obtained two patents. Number 3,395,271, issued on July 30, 1968, described an arithmetic unit for digital computers. Number 3,605,063, issued on September 14, 1971, invented a system for interconnecting electrical components.
