Joseph Lechleider

Biography
Joseph Lechleider was born on Feb. 22, 1933, in Brooklyn, NY and attended Brooklyn Technical High School. He earned his undergraduate degree from Cooper Union and a Ph.D. from New York University’s Polytechnic School of Engineering. In 1955 he became employed at Bell Labs, where he stayed for most of his career. In the late 1980s, he figured out that electrical crosstalk could be greatly reduced if download speeds were far faster than upload speeds. This revelation became known as the asymmetric digital subscriber line, and pioneered the way for fast broadband internet in people's homes.
Lechleider died on April 18th, 2015.
