Joseph Bordogna

Joseph Bordogna, IEEE President, 1998, was the deputy director and Chief Operating Officer of the National Science Foundation (1999-2005). He is currently the Alfred Fitler Moore Professor of Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, where he served formerly as Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science.

Biography

Bordogna received the B.S.E.E. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and the S.M. degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He has been an officer in the U.S. Navy, an engineer in industry, and a professor. He was Alfred Fitler Moore Professor of Engineering and Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at University of Pennsylvania.

Joseph Bordogna was Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer of the National Science Foundation from 1999 to 2005. After leaving the NSF, he returned to the University of Pennsylvania, becoming again the Alfred Fitler Moore Professor of Engineering.

He served his more local community as a founder of PRIME (Philadelphia Regional Introduction for Minorities to Engineering) and on the Board of The Philadelphia Partnership for Education.

Bordogna was IEEE president in 1998. He was awarded the 2008 IEEE James H. Mulligan, Jr. Education Medal.
