BACKGROUND
The IEEE Huntsville Section was inaugurated on 11 November 1953 under the then IRE. The Huntsville Section is located in Alabama and located in the IEEE Region 3. The turning point for Huntsville becoming a technological center of excellence was in the early 1950's was the US Government decision to locate a major army base and shortly thereafter the NASA ground facilities in support of the nearby Cape Canaveral launch facilities in Florida.
