Vollum worked in an electronics store in Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard in Porland OR, where he developed an instrument called the oscilloscope in the years following World War II. Tektronix's first commercial oscilloscope model, the 511, was more precise and compact than its competitors and was an immediate commercial success.
