Fleet Admiral Ernest J. King was Chief of Naval Operations from March 1942 to March 1945. He was a dynamic leader, highly intelligent but abrasive and demanding. Admiral Joseph J. Clark would write that King usually had a twinkle in his eye, but it was definitely not one of kindness.
