Biography

Edward V. McMahon was a retired vice president and board member of Southern Engineering Company, Inc., Atlanta, Ga., USA, and a past chairman of the IEEE Atlanta Section.

"Mac" received a degree in electrical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1938. He served in the Pacific Theater of World War II as a Signal Corps captain, participating in the Philippines' occupation.

After the war "Mac" began a 30-year career with Southern Engineering. During his tenure he was a pioneer in the implementation and design of vast areas of rural southern electrification, including underground electrical service.

He was at various times head of Southern Engineering's System Study Section, Distribution Design and Field Engineering Section, and Plans and Specifications Section. When he retired in 1976 he was secretary, vice president and a member of the board of directors.

McMahon died on December 9th, 1996.
