Donald Tuomi

Biography

Donald Tuomi earned his bachelor's degree in chemistry and a doctorate in physical chemistry from the Ohio State University, Columbus, USA. There he studied a type of photocathode used in infrared night vision. During World War II, he was a staff member of the Manhattan Project through Columbia University in New York. Dr. Tuomi worked on the development of the barrier at the Oak Ridge diffusion plant in Tennessee, which led to the first atom bomb.

He worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Lincoln Laboratory in Cambridge, the Thomas A. Edison Laboratories of Thomas A. Edison Industries and the Roy C. Ingersol Research Center at Borg-Warner Corp.

Dr. Tuomi was a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Institute of Chemists.

Dr. Tuomi died on March 12th, 2002.
