In 2007, the Society of Petroleum Engineers celebrated its 50th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the society's flagship periodical, the ''Journal of Petroleum Technology'' published a commemorative issue that explored the history of SPE's creation and growth. The issue examined industry history, and included accounts of the significant events and changes that occurred in the petroleum industry during that 50 year time span.
