Adriaan J. (de Lind) van Wijngaarden is with the of Networks and Communications Research Department, Bell , Alcatel-Lucent, in Murray Hill, NJ. He received an engineering degree in from Eindhoven University of , The Netherlands, and a doctorate in engineering from the University of Essen, Germany. From 1992-1998, he was a Research Engineer with the Digital Communications Group at for Experimental , University of Essen, Germany. During this period, he was also a Visiting Scientist at the Communications Research Centre, Ottawa, ON, Canada, and at the University of Electro-Communications, Tokyo, Japan. He joined Bell Labs in 1998, where he has been deeply engaged in both theoretical and application-driven research in communications, and coding. He provided key contributions to systems, high-speed optical systems and access. He has authored more than 70 technical papers, holds more than 30 patents, and has more than 20 patents pending. He is a co-recipient of the 2011 Bell Labs President's Award as well as three Bell Labs Teamwork Awards.

Dr. De Lind van Wijngaarden is a of the IEEE. He has served as a Publication Editor of the from 2005 until 2008, and as an Associate Editor (Communications) of the same journal from 2008 until 2011. He is an member of the IEEE North Jersey Section since 2011 and currently serves as its First Vice-Chair. In addition, he serves as a Treasurer of the IEEE Metropolitan Sections Council (2012-2013). He has co-organized Shannon Day at Bell Labs in 1998 and several , and served on the technical program committee of several international .
