George Zames began his higher education at the age of 15, graduating in the top of his class in engineering physics from McGill University in 1954. In 1960, while at MIT, he developed the Small Gain Theorem, which was one of the early important results in the stability of onlinear systems. He occupied various research positions. including a position at the NASA Research Centre in Cambridge, MA before returning to McGill in 1974. Mr. Zames is probably best known for the H-infinity theory, which is established as a design tool for advanced control systems.
Zames died on August 10th, 1998.
