San Jose’s first successful air-bearing read-write heads for on magnetic disks. They incorporated magnetic read-write elements manufactured for a magnetic drum product. Forced air flowing through the orifices in the face of each head formed a film of air 0.002–0.003 inches thick between the read-write heads and the surface of the disk.
