An Aichi D3A1 ‘Val’ dive bomber from the carrier Akagi. A 1936 design with fixed landing gear, and a top speed of only 242 mph, the Val was considered obsolete my 1942. Regardless of that, they did considerable damage at Pearl Harbor, and to Lexington and Yorktown. They were armed with two fixed forward firing machine guns, one flexible rear firing, and could carry up to 810 pounds of bombs. Imperial Japanese Navy photo, Source Warbirds Site www.ijnafpics.com
