A Douglas Dauntless SBD-5 dive bomber of Bombing Squadron VB-5 from USS Yorktown. The Dauntless first saw USN service in 1940, and was considered by some aviation experts as the best dive bomber in the world. Armed with two wing-mounted fifty caliber machine guns and two flexible thirty caliber machine guns in the rear cockpit, they brought down a number of Japanese Zeros.
