Biography
Dean McGee, and his partner, US Senator Robert Kerr, founded the Kerr McGee Corporation, a landmark company in offshore industry history. The company built and operated the first platform that produced oil from a structure out of sight of land in the Gulf of Mexico in 1947. The well helped to launch the offshore oil industry. McGee received the first SPE Public Service Award in 1984. He died in 1989.
