From ETHW

Originally published in 1948 by Dr. Robert Mehl on behalf of the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers (AIME), this 88 page treatise examines the development of metals before and after AIME's founding in 1871. Mehl argues that metallurgical research did not take off in America until the mid-1920's; Mehll concludes the work by declaring that the advancement of American metallurgical research is due to the efforts of engineering societies like AIME.
